RUN

January 2025

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the word “RUN.” There is a plethora of things that come to mind but in this blog, I want to focus on the aspect of running a race. More specifically, a “spiritual race” where we must run for our lives each and every day. In 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NIV) it reads,

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore, I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

The key here is to focus on our “self-discipline” to run this race so we can be ready when He calls our name. We want to finish strong and in order to do that,

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9 – NIV)

You see, in running a natural race, you get tired, winded and thirsty. It’s important to be prepared as much as possible when running a natural race. Now, to be totally transparent, I have never run a race. Walking, yes, but not running. However, my daughter-in-loves have participated in races and the work to prepare to run is no small task. Eating the proper food, getting plenty of rest, exercising, stretching and determination will make you a winner every time.

In our spiritual walk, we run a race each day. How? By reading your Bible, Praying, Mediating on G-d’s Word and treating your family and neighbors with love. With very busy lives, sometimes we can miss the mark by not keeping up with our regimen to make sure our spiritual walk is secure.

Let me encourage you. Take the time to take inventory on how you are running for Jesus in your life. Blessings!

“We are surrounded by a great cloud of people whose lives tell us what faith means. So let us run the race that is before us and never give up. We should remove from our lives anything that would get in the way and the sin that so easily holds us back.”

(Hebrews 12:1 NCV)
